Orla Guerin MBE is an Irish journalist and is currently the BBC's Pakistan correspondent based in Islamabad. She has extensive experience, having been based in many areas including Jerusalem (where she reported on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict), the West Coast of the USA, Southern Europe, Kosovo, the Republic of Macedonia, the Basque country in northern Spain, and in Moscow, where she covered the Kursk submarine disaster in 2000.
She was removed as the BBC's Middle East correspondent after a 2005 trip to Israel by BBC director general Mark Thompson and became the corporation's Africa correspondent, based in Johannesburg in 2006.
She first came to attention as a journalist and foreign correspondent with RTÉ News.
